Humility's Back in Town

Every year around May, the city of Birmingham feels just a little bit different. The sun is just starting to heat up....college kids are finishing up and school age kids are looking toward summer. But somewhere along Hwy 280 between Brookwood Mall and the Red Mountain Expressway, a small whole in the universe is formed and very few even know it. An unusually large amount of humility is virtually sucked from the Birmingham landscape. Not all at once, but over a course of weeks, one by one and two by two the JH Ranch staff slowly make their way to the snow capped mountains of Etna, California and with them goes the great humilty all on staff have come to know.

If somehow, your life has been spent underneath a rock and therefore you are not aware of this phenomenon, let me tell you about this humility and the people who embody it. The humility really belongs to the female staff. They are very aware that they have absolutely no care for themselves....they never think of themselves, never turn a conversation toward themselves...in fact, they almost forget that they exist. Throughout the summer, the degree of humility shifts among the ladies with one considered "The most humble person at the ranch" one day and the title shifting to another the next. This characteristic has begun to infiltrate the summer staff as well with one or more of them vying to the prized position of second or third on the list.

You may know some of these great humble women and I would like to pay tribute some of them now. Unerstandably, I will not be able to list them all as some are too humble even to be noticed but here is a short list of current and past humble JH staff women. Lauren B., Heather H., Leslie A., Natalie B. (summer staff), Rosalyn S. (summer staff), and intentionally last and considered by herself as the least.....Julie J.
Ladies, you are truly humble. As some of you begin to branch out from the ranch I want to wish you the best in spreading your humility to the various places to which you will travel....Boone Docks, D.C., etc. Good luck ladies

Sincerely,

The origninal "Most Humble Person at the Ranch"
